- The Green Building Institute in Jessup, MD offers training, networking and educational events for industry professionals and homeowners alike.
- The U.S. Green Building Council National Capital Region Chapter has bi-weekly residential education events and a Residential Advocacy Committee working to promote green building in the metro area.
- The U.S. Green Building Council Maryland Chapter based in Baltimore provides information specific to Maryland and hosts frequent networking and educational events.
- The Green Home Guide provides case studies and information on green home new construction and remodeling.
- Building Science Tech’s newly released Building Analyst Field Training Video: How to Perform a Home Energy Audit highlights the technical skills required for becoming a home energy auditor for professionals interested in BPI certification and taking the BPI field exams.
- Green Building Advisor is an online resource of case studies, product information and building science technical resources.
- The Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA) offers excellent builders guides that include detailed drawings through their online bookstore. We recommend builders and those interested in building science purchase the Mixed-Humid guide for the MD, DC and VA region.
Green Building and Re-Use Stores
- ReBuild Warehouse is a non-profit in Springfield, VA that accepts used building materials and re-sells them to the public. All proceeds help train unemployed and underemployed workers for green collar jobs.
- Deconstruction Services disassembles residential and small commercial buildings throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. They recycle or reclaim approximately 80% of building structures saving in hauling and disposal costs and providing tax deductions for donations.
- Community Forklift has a large warehouse in Edmonston, MD that accepts donations of new and used building materials for a tax deduction, and sells building materials at prices 40% - 80% below retail.
- ReStore in Gaithersburg, MD accepts new and used building material donations and re-sells them to the public at 50% to 90% below retail prices to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
- Amicus Green Building Center in Kensington, MD supplies new green building products from lumber to countertops and everything in between.
