Federal Incentives

Existing Homes Existing Homes and New Homes
Tax credits are available for 30% of the cost, up to $1,500 for qualifying:

  • Windows and Doors
  • Insulation
  • Roofs (Metal and Asphalt)
  • HVAC
  • Water Heaters (non-solar)
  • Biomass Stoves
Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, with no upper cap for renewable energy systems including:

  • Geothermal Heat Pumps
  • Solar Panels
  • Solar Water Heaters
  • Small Wind Energy Systems
  • Fuel Cells

Maryland Incentives

Baltimore County LEED Property Tax Credit
New homes in Baltimore County can get significant reductions in property taxes for achieving LEED. Homes earning LEED Silver will earn a 40% property tax credit, 60% for LEED Gold, and 100% for LEED Platinum. The property tax credit applies for 3 years or up to $1 million in total incentives.

BGE (Baltimore Gas and Electric) Smart Energy Savers Program

When paid out at the highest available tier, BGE incentives total $1525 for new homes meeting ENERGY STAR that are 25% more energy efficient than code and install EPA’s Advanced Lighting Package.

Anne Arundel, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties

Property tax credits and incentives for energy efficiency, solar and geothermal systems are available for residents of the above counties. Find your county and what is available.

Washington, DC Incentives

Renewable Energy Incentive Program (REIP)

The REIP is a rebate for solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy systems. Most PEPCO customers within the District of Columbia are eligible for incentives. The current incentives for solar and wind energy systems are as follows:

  • $3/watt for first 3 kW installed capacity
  • $2/watt for next 7 kW installed capacity
  • $1/watt for next 10 kW installed capacity
